Embracing Change

Embracing Change

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new — Socrates

Almost a year ago I started this website and blog in the hopes of sharing my point of view and stories of my life. Little did I know entering in 2024 the amount of change this year had in store for me. As much as I personally struggled during this year, I realized that at the end of the day it’s  important to embrace  the change that is happening.

Everyone handles change differently and as I tried to find my way to figure out how to maneuver this year of change, I struggled. A couple  of things i felt going through this year were:

Loss of Perspective - When someone goes through a lot of change at one time, they can lose a sense of perspective. When i get to the point of losing perspective, i typically will have strong mood swings (due to i read too much into things), feel extreme anxiety, and feel like dont have any control. I use the example that I will feel like I am in the middle of a tornado and everything is just spinning around me.

Stress - in the midst of everything happening I struggled with stress and anxiety. If stress and anxiety go long enough it does not only affect mental and emotional well being but can also cause issues with a person's medical well being as well.

Over the last couple months I have had to take a step back and evaluate where I am at and how I embrace the changes that have happened this year, and prepare myself for potentially additional change. I did this with a few steps:

Seek help - surround yourself with people who will support you, help you, & also be honest with you. Find a mentor or bring people into your life who will make you better, like the old saying metal sharpens metal. Find your personal medal.

Reflect & adapt - change happens whether you want it or not. Some changes you can prepare for & some of them will smack you when you least expect. Sometimes when that happens you nerf to take a step back and determine what is the next best move for you

Self care - two words that I have spent most of my life avoiding. I always consider “self care” to be more of a selfish approach to life. Unfortunately it has taken me a long time to realize if I don’t take care of myself - no one else will.

As I have navigated & slowly embraced this steady of change I have learned a lot about my process but more importantly have learned a lot about me.

The biggest thing I want to share about change is that it is ok to sometimes have to take a step back to move forward. If you find yourself struggling with stress or anxiety, put yourself first and in a place where you can embrace what is next.
