As a survivor of kidney disease, Gene has faced numerous turning points that forced him to reevaluate his life's direction. From the devastating diagnosis in his college years to the subsequent emotional rollercoaster, he learned to cope with grief, fear, and self-doubt. During those times, he wore a mask—a grin and a nod—to hide his pain from the world, bottling up his emotions.
Gene brings a unique perspective to overarching themes in the human experience. He began to let down the mask he had been wearing and become more authentic and vulnerable. He started to become more of who he truly is.
As Gene transformed himself on the inside, he also began to experience change on the outside. He has been able to reclaim his health and currently,Gene is an Executive Director of a national kidney organization.

His personal journey with kidney disease has shaped him into the advocate he is today. From facing his own battles with kidney disease to receiving two life-saving kidney transplants, he understands firsthand the challenges and triumphs that come with this condition.
Because of his own struggles and the challenges he faced, Gene became acutely aware of the toll kidney disease takes not only on the physical health but also on the mental and emotional well-being of patients and their families. With this passion driving him, Gene is on a mission to bridge the gap between physical health and mental well-being for kidney patients. He understands that the emotional roller-coaster ride of facing a life-threatening illness needs to be acknowledged and supported. Gene's personal journey taught him the importance of providing a safe space for individuals to express their fears, frustrations, and anxieties, allowing them to find solace and encouragement from others who share similar experiences.
Gene firmly believes that addressing the mental health aspect of kidney disease not only improves the quality of life for patients but also empowers them to face their medical journey with resilience and hope. His work as a public speaker is to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and encouraged open conversations about the emotional impact of kidney disease.
In so doing he opens the door to conversations about mental health in all areas of the human experience. His message is a message of hope and encouragement that brings a fresh perspective to anyone struggling with mental health, anxiety, depression, fear or self doubt.
